Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has returned to business as usual this morning for its central southern England electricity network.
SSEN's engineers worked in challenging conditions throughout the weekend to restore power to over 60,000 customers affected by Storm Dennis. Central southern England experienced extremely heavy rainfall from the early hours of Saturday into Sunday afternoon, combined with wind gusts in excess of 60mph along coastal areas, and up to 60mph inland. SSEN continues to monitor the impact of localised flooding, and remains alert to its impact on the electricity network.
Stuart Hogarth, Director of Customer Operations, said:
"We enacted our well-established resilience plans in response to a second weekend of unsettling conditions and I would like to thank our customers for their patience as our engineers worked quickly and safely to restore power in wet weather.
"I would also like to thank SSEN colleagues - both operational and office based - who worked round the clock to restore power and to reassure our customers that we were doing all we could to get them back on supply.
"Throughout these winter months, I would encourage anyone who is concerned about potential disruption to supplies during adverse weather, particularly those who may need extra support during a power cut, to call us on 105 where our dedicated teams are available to help, 24 hours a day."
Customers are also reminded that they can prepare for the possibility of disruption to power supplies by:
- Saving the emergency power cut number - 105 - to your phone to report any loss of supply or damage to the electricity network
- Downloading SSEN's Power Track app to give you details of power cuts and restoration times. You can also report power cuts and network damage through the Power Track app
- Going to SSEN's website where there is a wealth of advice and information on how to deal with a power cut, or to chat live to one of SSEN's advisors via its Webchat service
- Following SSEN on Facebook and Twitter for regular updates
Customers can register for SSEN's Priority Services Register (PSR) if they require extra assistance. People can qualify for the PSR if they:
- Are dependent on electricity for home medical care
- Have a chronic illness or short term medical condition
- Have a disability
- Have special communication needs
- Have children under the age of five
- Are over the age of 60
