Teams from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) continue to make good progress reconnecting the final remaining homes impacted by Storm Ciara.
Over the course of the last 24 hours, SSEN has restored power to over 85,000 homes across central southern England. As of 10:30pm, around 200 properties remain off supply. The majority of these properties are in parts of Wiltshire and Berkshire, with multiple points of network damage caused by fallen trees and wind-borne debris striking overhead power lines.
SSEN engineers and overhead line teams will continue to work late into the evening to restore power to all remaining homes and its support teams continue to maintain contact with customers to offer hot meals, drinks and further support where required.
Wind gusts in excess of 75mph were recorded in central southern England as Storm Ciara tracked across the region on Sunday. Today, SSEN's engineers have responded to a significant number of additional faults caused by ongoing challenging weather conditions.
Stuart Hogarth, SSEN's Director of Customer Operations, said:
"Our teams continue to work into the night to restore power following the impact of Storm Ciara and we expect all homes to be reconnected this evening. Access issues, complex repairs and continued high wind speeds resulted in challenging conditions for our engineers as they worked hard to restore power over the course of today.
"I'd continue to encourage anyone who may be in a vulnerable situation to contact us on the power cut helpline, 105. I would also urge members of the public not to approach any damage to our equipment and instead, report it either by calling 10 or via our Power Track App and our teams will investigate as soon as possible."
