SSEN's Customer and Community Advisor, Joe Cherrett addresses the Dorset Seminar with part of his talk referring to safety around the electricity infrastructure

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has been spreading the word on the free additional services it can provide to customers, with the help of the Dorset Seminar.

With attendees from councils and parish councils, the seminar is the perfect platform for SSEN to talk to interested parties about the work it does as a distribution operator and how it puts its customers at the heart of its operation.

Around 60 representatives from the Dorset area were involved in the engagement event, where SSEN's Customer and Community Advisors Joe Cherrett and Rebecca Botto spoke about subjects including SSEN's Priority Services Register (PSR), Power Pack Pals, the Power Track app, fuel poverty and the free-to-call emergency 105 number.

SSEN's Joe Cherrett explains more: "As we move into the winter months, we want as many of our customers as possible to know about the additional services that we can provide, especially in circumstances of adverse weather that could lead to power cuts."

"By being able speak at the seminar about how these services work and how we're investing in the local electricity network, we can then ask the attendees to help cascade that information to a wider audience and enable us to reach even more of our customers."

"It also gives us the opportunity to build stronger contacts across the community, so we can gain a greater understanding of what local residents and business owners require from us and our electricity infrastructure, and act according to their needs."

Customers can join SSEN's Priority Services Register (PSR) if they:

  • Are dependent on electricity for home medical care, for example a kidney dialysis machine or ventilator
  • Have a chronic illness or short term medical condition; for example you are recovering from a major operation
  • Are disabled
  • Have special communication needs; for example because you are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing
  • Have children under five
  • Are over 60 years old
