Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) attended the first Senior Citizens: Staying Safe, Well and Connected event in Caol Community Centre, Lochaber to promote its Priority Services Register (PSR).
Samantha O'Connor, Regional Customer Relationship Manager represented SSEN at the event which attracted over 70 attendees, with representatives from various services including Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Home Energy Scotland, among others, offering valuable advice on how to stay safe and well connected.
Speaking after the event, Samantha said:
"I'd like to thank the Highland Senior Citizens Network for giving us the opportunity to attend the event. I really enjoyed meeting everyone to explain how we can provide extra support during a power cut."
"I took 100 registration forms with me and didn't need to take any away as everyone was so keen to get themselves and their neighbours signed up."
Over 570,000 of SSEN's 3.8 million customers have already signed up to the Priority Services Register, but SSEN recognises that some people may not be aware that they're eligible and is calling on customers to get in touch to ensure any of its customers who require extra help during a power cut are supported by its dedicated teams.
Customers can qualify for the PSR if they:
- Are dependent on electricity for home medical care
- Have a chronic illness or short term medical condition
- Are disabled
- Have special communication needs
- Have children under the age of five
- Are over the age of 60
By registering for SSEN's PSR, customers will be proactively contacted to warn them of potential bad weather to help them prepare and to offer extra support where required. SSEN's teams will also keep in close and regular contact with its PSR customers during power cuts to check they are getting the help they need. The free service also offers:
- Dedicated 24-hour priority services phone number
- Information in the format you need, for example Braille, textphone, audio CD or foreign language
