Weather Warning

We remain at our ‘Weather Warning’ preparedness level in the north of Scotland ahead of Storm Dave, which will move across much of our Scottish network area during the Easter weekend.

Gale-force winds, heavy rain, and snow showers will move in from the west from around 7pm on Saturday evening, with the worst of the weather clearing the north-east of Scotland in the early hours of Sunday.  While there remains some uncertainty among weather forecasters about the track and intensity of the storm, we’ve been preparing for some days now to respond to the impact there could be on the electricity network.

💨 The weather forecast

Gusts of 70-80 mph are being forecast for coastal areas, with the strongest winds now expected to affect the Aberdeenshire and Moray coasts in the early hours of Sunday.

60-70 mph winds are expected to be widespread inland. These will begin affecting Argyll in the early evening on Saturday and then move across the country during the night.

The Met Office has issued its own Yellow Warnings for Saturday and Sunday.

👷 How SSEN is responding

We’ve already activated our well-rehearsed plans, with teams being put in place in strategic locations to deal with network faults and to fix any damage. Further teams are on standby to further boost this response if required.

An enlarged team in our Customer Contact Centre will be ready to respond to any increase in the number of customers’ calls and queries, and more engineers will be on duty in the control room to re-route the network around fault locations where possible.

200,000 customers who are registered for our Priority Services have already been messaged with a warning about this weekend’s storm, along with help and advice for what to do if their power goes off. A dedicated team will be calling the most-vulnerable among our customers in those areas where wind speeds are forecast to be at their highest, to provide them with specific support and guidance.

We’ll continue to watch this period of severe weather closely as it develops, and we’ll issue further updates depending on the forecast.
