Ahead of the arrival of Storm Bram, we’ve moved to ‘Yellow Alert’ preparedness status in our north of Scotland licence area, with the highest wind gusts forecast to impact the Western Isles, West and Northwest Highlands and Skye from Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday morning.
💨 The weather forecast
Storm Bram, which has been named by the Irish Met Office, is forecast to run from Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday morning, and forecasts currently indicate storm-force winds gusting up to 90mph across the Western Isles, West and Northwest Highlands and Skye with strong winds expected elsewhere in the region. Heavy rain is also forecast.
👷 How we're responding
Our heightened ‘Yellow Alert’ alert level reflects the strong likelihood that these storm-force winds will affect customers’ power supplies, and over the past few days we’ve been increasing our level of preparedness to make sure that we're ready to respond.
Moving to this status means we’ve activated our well-rehearsed contingency plans, with teams in strategic locations ready to respond to network damage and faults, which may interrupt your power supply.
For those customers who may need extra help if their power is off, our specialist Priority Services team are in the process of contacting customers already registered for free support during a power cut; in total we’re reaching out to nearly 180,000 customers in the areas most likely to be affected, to offer advice and check on their welfare ahead of Storm Bram’s arrival.
We’ll continue to monitor the weather forecast closely, and we’ll issue further updates depending on the forecast.
