When Roy Forrest and Phil Hull from our overhead lines team were driving between jobs in the Meigle area of Perth & Kinross recently, their journey came to an abrupt halt when they saw a tiny, shivering bundle of fluff in the middle of the road. They knew straightaway that something wasn’t right and so jumped out to investigate.
After getting out of their van, they came across a baby rabbit which looked like it had become separated from its family, and was in dire need of sustenance and warmth.
Phil takes up the story:
“When Roy and I stopped, we both agreed that full blown adoption was the only way to make sure the rabbit was going to survive. When we brought it in the van we took turns in letting it burrow into a cosy spot where it eventually found refuge in a woolly hat.

“We both decided that we were too old to raise a new born, and so calling the SSPCA was the right thing to do. When he was taking it away for some much-needed sustenance, the man from the SSPCA explained that it was very young bunny and once it had been fed and fattened up and become a little older, it would be released back into the area where we first found it. Talking about the handover is difficult, as we were both really keen on that little bunny!”

We’re so proud of Roy and Phil for their quick-thinking and compassion. And while our PPE is designed for all weathers, and our wooly hats have kept thousands of colleagues warm over the years, they’ve probably never been used as a temporary hutch for an orphaned rabbit!
