Dundee's Golden Oldies Cinema Club might have missed out on their Christmas get-together this year, but teams from the local Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) depot did their best to keep spirits up when they hand-delivered a double bill of festive cheer.

SSEN staff delivered 76 hot Christmas meals prepared by the local Weaver's Mill restaurant, along with gift bags containing non-perishable food from the city's Fareshare project anda home emergency kit courtesy of SSEN to every member of the Golden Oldies at home.

Samantha O'Connor, SSEN's Customer Relationship Manager, said employees were keen to deliver some feelgood festive fun in their community.

She said: "The Golden Oldies had asked for help with face masks for their annual Christmas party at the Weaver's Mill before the tier system came in, which we were delighted to help with."

"When it became apparent that they wouldn't get their big party this year, we wanted to spread the Christmas spirit and organised a party pack so they can celebrate in their own homes."

"In addition to delivering hot Christmas meals and food from Fareshare, our engineers provided home emergency kits which are full of useful items that enhance the personal resilience of our customers such as a torch, home emergency checklist, thermometer, magnet with our contact details, a pen and details of our Priority Services Register, which provides support to those who need it most."

As well as the vital winter packs, the Golden Oldies also got an early 'first foot' by way ofa specially designed calendar with photos of the Golden Oldies which also carries the details of the 105 emergency number to call if they do ever have a power cut.

Mary Cavin, who has been running the Golden Oldies Cinema Club for the pastfouryears, said:

"The response has been phenomenal. The meals from the Weavers Meals were hot, the SSEN teams delivering the meals were really nice and the amount of food delivered from Fareshare has gone down really well."

"I've had so many calls thanking everyone for the deliveries, with one man telling me it was the best Christmas he's had in years. I'm just so pleased it went really well. Thank you to everyone who supported us."

Speaking after all 76 deliveries were completed, Samantha said:"We know first-hand how much these deliveries have meant to the Golden Oldies' members and I'd like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in spreading some Christmas cheer in such a difficult year."
