Customers in the Regent Street and Duff Street areas of Keith are set to benefit from new technology being installed by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) as part of the company's automation programme.
Work is due to start on Monday 9 March and will see engineers install new underground cables and automated technology, which will not only make local supplies more robust and resilient, the automation will also reduce the duration of the power cut on the rare occasions there is a fault.
Andrew Jarvis, SSEN's Network Planning and Design Manager, explains more about how this automated technology will help deliver the best service to the local community:
"We do all we can to provide our customers with a safe, secure and reliable supply of electricity, and on the rare occasions there is a fault on the network we want to get the power back on as safely and as quickly as possible.
"The work we'll be doing in Keith will see new cable installed along with automated equipment which will alert our engineers in the control room when a fault occurs, as well as its location. In addition, the automation allows our teams in the control room to turn the power on and off remotely, which saves time as previously an engineer would have had to do this on site.
"All of this work will make the local electricity network stronger and more reliable, helping to minimise the potential for power cuts."
For the safety of pedestrians, road-users and staff on site, the footpath and parking area on the roads where teams are working will be closed. To minimise disruption, this essential work will be carried out in stages.
Work starts on 9 March and is expected to be completed by 17 April.
