Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is inviting businesses, households and wider stakeholders to attend an engagement event on 5 March 2019, to learn more about its multimillion-pound upgrade of the network between Ascot and Longcross.
The event will be held at Cordes Hall, 8 High Street, Sunninghall, SL5 9NE between 12:00 - 18:00, on Tuesday, 5 March 2019. Members of SSEN's project team will be on hand to explain more about the essential work that will be taking place and answer any questions that may arise.
SSEN is installing 14km of new power cables between Ascot and Longcross as part of a £7.5 million upgrade. The project is expected to take place between February 2019 to March 2020. While the work is safely completed there will be a series of road closures.
The project which will support a more resilient power supply for the area, through the undergrounding of sections of cable and the refurbishment of the primary substation at the site of the Military Vehicles and Engineering Establishment, will also allow for future commercial and residential connections. The substation element of the project alone will provide power to 10,000 customers, with the overall programme of works keeping the infrastructure secure for decades to come.
Work has already commenced at Ascot High Street and Westwood Road. During this period Ascot High Street will have parking restrictions, and road users are requested to make alternative arrangements for parking. The work at Ascot High Street are expected to be completed by the end of March 2019.
Westwood Road is currently closed to vehicular traffic, with a signed diversion route taking road users through Snows Ride and Hatton Hill. The road closure is expected to be on going from 20th February to 5th June 2019. Where possible access for residents will be maintained.
SSEN's Project Manager for the investment, Anthony Horne, thanked residents and local businesses for their patience during the completion of the works: "SSEN aims to minimise disruption, while maximising the safety of our colleagues and our customers who may be in the vicinity of this project."
"Engaging with the community on a project of this scale is of the utmost importance to SSEN. I hope residents, local businesses and any concerned parties can attend our stakeholder engagement event next Tuesday where SSEN will be ready to answer any questions, discuss any issues, and explain the plan for this investment project."
The works will be undertaken between February 2019 to March 2020 in the following locations: Ascot High Street, Station Hill, Brockenhurst Road, Devenish Road, A30 London Road, Westwood Road, Kennel Lane, Updown Hill and Chertsey Road.
Letter drops will be carried out to homes and businesses to update them on the phases of the project as it reaches their immediate area and, as some of the areas of the upgrade may lead to minor traffic management systems being used temporarily, details of which will be posted on www.roadworks.org.
