Homes and businesses in Reading are set to benefit from a multi-million pound investment as part of a series of works to boost the resilience of power supplies in and around the city.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is investing a further £4.4m to upgrade the network that serves its customers in Reading and surrounding areas, upgrading and reinforcing the area's supply now and for the years to come.
Work is already under way on the project that will involve just under 14 kilometres of high voltage underground cable being installed between two of our main substations, with residents and business owners being notified of an upcoming traffic management system which will be in place to allow us to carry out these essential works safely.
The works will be taking place at the following locations, with signage notifying of SSEN'sworks in advance.

- Sinfield Road
- Elmhurst Road
- Upper Readlands Road
- Alexandra Road
- Addington Road
- Crescent Road
- Wokinham Road
- London Road
SSEN's lead construction manager, Miles Crossley said: "These works are part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that our customers in and around Reading have a robust power supply that will be resilient for the future."
"SSEN is investing heavily in and around Reading, and this latest upgrade will see the replacement of underground cabling that has reached the end of its working life, with new, more efficient cables being put in their place to future-proof the local power network."

For the duration of the works, SSEN will be available to address any questions raised by the community, so that all parties involved are able to influence any possible impact these works may have.
Letter drops will be carried out to homes and businesses to update them on the phases of the project as it reaches their immediate area and, as some of the areas of the upgrade may lead to minor road closures and traffic management systems being used temporarily, details will be posted on www.roadworks.org.
