As part of a new private development being constructed along Stanhope Road in Portsmouth, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) will soon be diverting their underground cables away from the area where the work is taking place.

To divert the cable safely, Stanhope Road will be closed for the duration of the works and a diversion route, which has been agreed with the local council's Highways Department, will be in place for all motor vehicles.

  • SSEN's teams will begin work on Monday 26 February and the project will be completed by Sunday 11 March.
  • Teams will be on site every day (including weekends) and will be working between 7:30 am and 5pm.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, as SSEN will erect exclusion zones around their excavations for the safety of the public and also staff working there.
  • Upon completion of the cable diversion, SSEN will utilise a specialist team to carry out the reinstatement to a high standard before the road re-opens.
  • Letters detailing all of the above information, as well as contact details for locally-based SSEN staff have been delivered earlier this week.

Speaking ahead of the works, SSEN's Project Manager, Stuart Ainslie, said: "We will do everything we can to ensure that this short project is competed as safely and as quickly as possible, and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any potential disruption or inconvenience that our essential work may cause."
