Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has returned to business as usual following the gale-force winds that affected its electricity distribution networks across central southern England in the early hours of this morning.

Around 22,000 customers whose power supplies were affected have been reconnected throughout the course of the day, with all customer supplies now restored.

Craig Gilroy, Director of Customer Operations, said:

"SSEN engineers have worked from first light to quickly and safely restore customer supplies affected by the high winds that brought damage to our network, predominantly through fallen tree and wind-borne debris."

"Our teams have worked in challenging conditions to get the lights back on for our customers, and in addition to thanking them for all of their efforts, I'd like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding while we worked to safely restore their supplies."
