Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has completed the installation of its new underground cable between Portland and Weymouth.
Now that all major works associated with the cable installation are complete, SSEN is currently in the process of removing its equipment from the public highway, with all road restrictions due to be lifted by 23 April.
This energisation of this new cable on 3 May will mark the successful completion of the first phase of SSEN's project to improve electricity supplies in and around Portland and Weymouth. The second phase, to remove the old redundant cable from Chesil Beach, will begin in September and will not involve any work on the public highway.
Miles Crossley, Project Manager said: "On behalf of everyone working on this project I would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience and understanding as we have carried out our essential work. We recognise that there has been a lot of interest in this project from the outset and I would like to reassure everyone that we have done everything possible to minimise disruption to local traffic, and complete our work as safely and as quickly as possible."
"Now that this new cable is in place, it will help us to continue our commitment to deliver a safe and reliable supply of electricity to our customers in and around Portland and Weymouth."
