A £1.4 million investment to upgrade and strengthen the electricity network serving Elgin is now complete, with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) delivering the vital boost to the town under budget and ahead of schedule.

SSEN's engineers have been working to replace electrical equipment at Elgin Primary substation to ensure a continued safe, secure and reliable supply of electricity to residents in the area. This essential work was required as circuit breakers and electrical plant located at the substation were nearing the end of their operational life.

To make sure the local community continues to receive the power it needs, both now and in the future, SSEN's teams invested £1.4 million on replacement switchgear to increase the reliability of the local power network and improve security of supply for customers.

Neil Wilson, Head of Region for North Caledonia (North East and Shetland) at SSEN, said:

"We know how important a safe and reliable supply of electricity is to our local communities and we're delighted to complete major engineering works on the Elgin electricity grid to improve the service we provide to our customers."

"This refurbishment programme will greatly improve network reliability in the area, with modernised equipment enabling our teams to minimise power cuts and restore supplies quicker in the event of a fault. We're pleased to complete this project ahead of schedule and under budget and I'd like to thank our customers for their patience during any planned supply interruptions they experienced to provide a greater resilience of electrical supply in their area."
