Teams from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' (SSEN) Inverness depot are holding a series of contractor safety events in the Highlands and Islands region to bring safety to the forefront of everyone's mind in advance of the winter months.
The safety of SSEN's workforce, its customers and the environment is a key objective for the network operator and SSEN's Highlands and Islands region has been making progress in delivering this message to everyone working on SSEN's behalf across the region.
The interactive sessions held in Inverness included discussions on SSEN's safety licence 'if it's not safe, we don't do it', behavioural safety, working in proximity to overhead lines, underground cable avoidance, plant and vehicle checks and large vehicle blind spots.
Pamela Harvey, SSEN's Customer Relationship Manager, said:
"We've been delighted to welcome our contractor colleagues across a variety of disciplines to our Inverness depot to share our safety family messages and help ensure everyone goes home safe to their families at the end of every working day."
"The introduction of our licence has been embraced by our workforce, and we want to make sure our contract partners are also aware of the human factors to consider when working on our behalf in the communities we serve in the Highlands and Islands."
Intended to be more than a slogan, SSEN's award-winning safety licence gives individuals at all levels the empowerment and authority to stop a job or activity if they are concerned for their own personal safety and that of others, providing a direct message that safety always comes first.
SSEN's 'Influencing Behaviours' behavioural training programme has been delivered to more than 4,600 employees and contract partners at 30 locations across SSEN's network areas, challenging the workforce to think differently about their own beliefs and behaviours and promoting the importance of interdependency.
SSEN is committed to holding sessions like these across its network area to continue promoting safe outcomes for its employees and contract partners, its customers and the environment.
