Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is investing £2m to upgrade the electricity network powering the town of Camberley.

The improvement works, which start on Monday 21 May, will run for 25 weeks and will see the replacement of 5km of new overhead line to help improve supplies and minimise the risk of possible power cuts.

This project is required to make the local electricity network more robust and resilient, and has also been designed to meet any increasing demands of homes and businesses in and around the town.

Christopher Smart, SSEN's Project Manager, said:

"We are committed to providing our customers with the best level of service at all times and this £2m project will improve the reliability for our customers in Camberley."

"For the safety of the local community and staff working on the project, traffic management will be in place when work is being carried out on the public roads and pavement. This traffic management plan has been agreed in conjunction with the council's Highways Department and will include a combination of traffic lights, diversions and/or road closures. In addition, letters explaining the type of work which will be taking place nearby will be delivered to residents and businesses in and around the area of the works to keep the local community informed throughout the project."

"As with any project that involves work in the public highways there will be an element of unavoidable disruption and I would like to assure the local community and commuters that we have worked with the local council to keep this to a minimum. We would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience as we go about our essential work andto provide reassurance that our teams are always keen to help wherever possible. If any residents or businesses have specific concerns, questions or requirements we are not aware of, please speak to any of our staff on site and we'll be happy to discuss these in more detail and see what we can do to help."

To ensure the safety of residents, commuters and Construction Teams during these works, traffic management systems will be in operation in the following locations:

A331
Doman Road
Glebeland Road
London Road
Rosemary Lane
Sandhurst Lane
Stanhope Road
Swan Lane
W
atchmoor Road

SSEN wants to reassure its customers that throughout this programme of improvement it will do everything possible to minimise noise and disruption while building a stronger electricity network for Camberley.

In the coming weeks, customers will be invited to a community drop-in session to allow residents and businesses in the area to discuss the next stages of these upgrade works with the project team.
