Scottish and Southern Electricity Networksis continuingto make good progress with its £2m upgrade of the Low Voltage (LV) network in and around Petersfield town centre, and has announced a further £300,000 investment to upgrade the High Voltage (HV) underground cable along the same route.
This additional work will see 1km of HV cable installed in the Penns Road and Market Square areas of the town and will use the same trenches as the newly installed LV cable, which will help to minimise disruption in the local community. The installation of this additional cable will see the project extended into mid-November, and the teams on site will be doing everything possible to have as much of this essential work completed ahead of the busy pre-Christmas period.
Speaking about the additional work, Chris Slingsby, SSEN's Head of Customer Operations for the South East Region, said: "We'd like to thank the residents and businesses in Petersfield for their patience and understanding as our teams have gone about their work over the past few months. This additional work is an essential part of our commitment to providing the best service possible to our customers, and while it means that we will be working in Petersfield town centre longer than we had initially announced, we felt that it was better to extend this existing project rather than come back again next year to work along the same route. We realise that the town centre will be very busy in the run-up to Christmas and we have been liaising with the local council to ensure that our works will not interfere with the plans and activities of the church and local businesses."
SSEN will continue to host its successful weekly drop-in sessions at the Wednesday market, and is encouraging customers to come along between 08:30- 14:30 to learn more about this essential work.
