Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is revamping the electricity network in Dundee as part of an investment programme to upgrade and strengthen the electricity network serving the new £1 billion Dundee City Waterfront development.

The ongoing city transformation, including the V&A Museum of Design Dundee which is due to open in 2018 and Dundee Rail Station, is a 30 year project stretching 8km alongside the River Tay.

The latest phase of SSEN's investment programme will involve the installation of two new high voltage underground cables in South Union Street and will commence work on Monday 30 October, with the upgrade expected to complete by Wednesday 1 November.

SSEN is committed to keeping disruption in the city to a minimum by carrying out works between 10pm and 6am. Two lanes will be closed to ensure the safety of SSEN's engineers and the public as SSEN works to install the new cables, which will be removed during the day to allow traffic to pass freely.

Graeme Stewart, Head of Region at SSEN, said:

"Our first priority is to provide a safe and secure supply of electricity to our customers across the region. The ongoing investment in Dundee City Waterfront is transforming the area alongside the River Tay, providing opportunities across the city."

"To ensure our network is fit for purpose to cope with higher demand in the area, we are committed to strengthening the network to bring power to homes and businesses across Dundee."

"As a responsible network operator, we want to make sure disruption to our customers is kept to a minimum and have planned this latest phase of work overnight to avoid disturbance to our communities as we work to invest in our network. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the local community in advance for their patience."
