A team from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has attended a farming seminar to highlight the need for vigilance when working near overhead power lines.
Matt Anderson (Network Construction Manager) and Graham Street (Supply Restoration Manager) from SSEN's Ridgeway region took part in the session, which was held near Swindon and also featured legal advice and information from guest speakers.
Speaking after the event, Matt said: "This session gave Graham and I a fantastic opportunity to not only reinforce our safety message, it was also great to meet and chat with farmers face-to-face in a relaxed setting. With the booms on farming equipment and the size of combine harvesters getting bigger and bigger, it's vital that farmers and their teams keep an eye on what is happening above when they are out in the field."
"The OFGEM minimum height of overhead lines is 5.2m and although a lot of our lines are higher than that, modern farming equipment can extend as much as 7m, which means that is even more important that we get the "Look up, look out" message to as many farmers as possible."
