New Year's Resolutions are an annual occurrence for most of us, and with festive hygge in the air, it seems all so easy to stick the new plans. But then we all head back to work, and by the end of the week a lot of our resolutions have been cast aside for another year.

Just like our colleagues who work hard to keep the lights on 24/7, safety is something that doesn't stop for the holiday season. And so, to renew everyone's focus on "if it's not safe, we don't do it", Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has been hosting a series of Back to Work events for all its staff and contractors, whether they work in a depot or out in the field.

Richard Gough, SSEN's Head of Safety, Health and Environment, said: "The start of the new year, while technically just another day, is symbolic and represents a great opportunity for us to get together and support each other as we ease back into our work and everything that goes with that.

"Everyone across SSEN is encouraged to stop work if they believe something isn't safe. This is the licence we provide the SSEN workforce with (employees and contractors) is an essential option for everyone. We have lots of important business priorities but our primary day-to-day objective is to ensure safe outcomes for our workforce, our customers and the environment. On this there is no compromise."
