The latest edition of the SSEN Future Networks newsletter has a focus on the opening of The National HVDC Centre, a new cutting-edge technology centre in Cumbernauld that will allow the energy industry to simulate real life conditions to test and de-risk the use of high voltage direct current (HVDC) on the electricity network in Great Britain.
The June edition also looks at live line tree harvesting and the benefits to our business of owning a specialised machine that is able to fell and process trees close to overhead lines.
SSEN's flagship projects, New Thames Valley Vision (NTVV) and Northern Isles New Energy Solution (NINES) are highlighted as feedback gathered from the dissemination event earlier this year shows the success in assisting and informing attendees to enable smarter networks and transition to the role of Distribution System Operator (DSO).
Finally, an article on the transformer intrascope project explains the technology used to assess the condition and deterioration of transformers' internal insulation.
