When Sally Williams decided to fill a shoe box with goodies to help the Petersfield Post's Christmas appeal, little did she know that her colleagues in Scottish and Southern Electricity's local depot would also rally round and end up filling a grand total of 25 boxes.
Sally and some of her team-mates have now taken their festive haul to the newspaper's office in Petersfield town centre, from where they will be delivered to elderly members of the local community.
Speaking after the delivery, Sally said: "At this time of year it's really important to take a few minutes away from our own busy working lives and spare a thought for the elderly members of our community, some of whom may not have anyone to share Christmas with. When I read about the shoe box appeal in the Petersfield Post, I knew straightaway that it was something I wanted to help support. I mentioned it to some of my colleagues in the office one day when we were having a cup of tea, and I've been really touched by everyone's generosity and enthusiasm at helping such a simple, yet important, local good cause. We ended up with 25 boxes, all beautifully wrapped in Christmas paper, with each one containing small gifts such as toiletries and biscuits, and we also included a hand-written Christmas card and cracker in every one."
When handing over the boxes, Sally and her colleagues also took the opportunity to highlight the free help and support SSEN can offer elderly customers, as well as those with specific health requirements, via its Priority Service Register. The benefits include a dedicated 24-hour priority service phone number, priority updates on the rare occasions there is a power cut, and also information sent tocustomers in the format which best suits, for example Braille or an audio CD.
