Local Authorities and Community Energy GroupsProud of our past. Prepared for the future. Powering our community.
At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, we pride ourselves on not just working in our communities, but being part of them as well. Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of Scotland and central southern England. Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Our focus on people helps us understand the needs of the community, delivering the best service possible – no excuses. We've worked on and improved our networks for over 70 years, ensuring we are able to meet the changing needs of our customers. What is Community Energy? Community energy refers to a group of people coming together to generate, own, manage or reduce consumption of energy, taking action and using local resources to manage their own energy. Living within and being part of the communities we serve means we’re always engaging with our customers to make a difference to the lives of those we deliver power to. On this page, you’ll find a number of case studies and examples of how we’re helping to power our communities, not just the homes and businesses within them.
Advice and Support for Local Community Projects We encourage proactive relationships with community energy establishments and energy hubs. We partner with several third parties in Scotland and England providing advice, support and funding to customers seeking to start a community energy project. These groups work with organisations and their stakeholders to support the development of local, renewable energy.
