Modelling network planning

The SAVE project developed a series of models using project data to better understand how customers use their electricity and respond to interventions, network data to build up topological representation of feeders and substations and pricing data to provide commercial relevance to the project. The combination of “customer, network and pricing“ models were termed the Network Investment Tool (NIT) and provides a readily working means for network planners to understand how the types of customer on their network may affect load, growth forecasts and responses to interventions. Ultimately allowing for optimal investment decisions ensuring security of supply and cost-effective network management.
