Today is the eighth International Women in Engineering Day, a worldwide awareness campaign set up to not only raise the profile of women already involved in the industry, but also to shine a light on the options available to girls and women looking to enter further education or contemplating a new career path.
As part of this year's event, we caught up with our colleague Margaret Riach, who is a Project Manager in the Network Investment team in Aberdeen.
Margaret is currently part of the team charged with delivering a £10m network upgrade project across Aberdeen, installing new automated switchgear which will help us deliver an even better service for our customers in the city, as well as giving our colleagues in the Control Room a real-time overview of the network.
Margaret told us a little bit about she got into her role with SSEN Distribution:
"After our children had grown up, I went to college and got my HNC in Electrical Engineering; for the last ten years I've been with SSEN Distribution and really love the job I'm doing.
"There's so many different jobs that we do, every time you go out there could be a new situation or challenge, the one thing I can say for certain is that it's never boring.
"If someone's reading this and are perhaps thinking about their course options at school, considering going to college or university or maybe even looking into a new career path, I'd definitely encourage them to think about what engineering has to offer."
