**SSEN remains on Yellow Alert for its central southern England network**

Following the impact of Storm Brendan, which caused widespread disruption across much of Scotland yesterday, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has returned to business as usual for its north of Scotland electricity network.

Despite the extreme and sustained winds experienced throughout yesterday and overnight, with wind gusts well in excess of 80mph recorded on the Western Isles and widespread gusts of over 70mph across much of the north of Scotland, SSEN's network stood up well to the conditions.

Throughout the course of the weather event, SSEN restored power to over 20,000 customers, with 99 high voltage faults recorded over the period.

Dale Cargill, Director of Customer Operations, said:

"We'd like to thank all of our customers for their patience as our teams of engineers worked in extremely challenging conditions to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible. While the sustained nature of Storm Brendan and disruption to transport caused challenges accessing remote and island communities, engineers were on the first available ferries today to carry out repairs and restore supplies.

"Whilst we have moved back to business as usual, we continue to closely monitor the forecast with the period of unsettled weather expected to continue throughout the week. We'd like to reassure our customers we are well prepared in the event of further bad weather, but would ask anyone concerned about the potential disruption to supplies, particularly those who may need extra support during a power cut, to call us on 105 where our dedicated teams are available to help."
