Primary schools across Oxfordshire are being encouraged to sign up for safety talks with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).

The network operator is promoting its Power Pack Pals interactive learning programme that helps pupils better understand the electricity infrastructure, its power and the perils associated with playing near cables and substations.

Aimed at a younger audience, the SSEN educational resource is part of its commitment to empowering local communities and this most recent series of Power Pack Pals talks have already kicked off with presentations to pupils at Dr South's Church of England Primary School and Bletchingdon Primary School during September.

Customer Relationship Manager, Lucy Anderson explains more: "Throughout the autumn and winter months, SSEN is asking all primary schools in the Ridgeway area to 'sign up to safety' through our Power Pack Pals talks."

"The interactive sessions centre around four great friends, the Power Pack Pals, who aim to spark the imagination of children and help them to appreciate why electricity, the 'Magic Power', is very important in our world but can also be dangerous, and should be treated with extra special care.

"By holding these talks during the darker months, pupils are even more aware of the power network that brings heat and light to their homes and schools. They can then go into the summer months with a greater understanding of the infrastructure around them and why they should avoid playing near power lines and substations."
