Properties in Dundee will benefit from a more reliable supply of electricity as works commence to upgrade and strengthen the underground electricity network serving Pitfour Street and surrounding areas.
As part of its ongoing commitment to provide a safe and secure supply of electricity to its customers, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is investing around £55,000 to replace the underground cables currently serving the area, installing new cables from Pitfour Street Substation to the junction of Baxter Street and City Road.
Works commence today (Monday 7 October) and SSEN's teams will look to safely complete the project as quickly as possible, with estimated completion during November.
To ensure the safety of the public, SSEN's engineers and its contractors as works progress, temporary traffic management including lane closures and on-street parking restrictions will be implemented by contractors, Inverness Paving. Letters detailing these closures and restrictions are being delivered to properties in each area before that particular phase of the project is due to commence.
Electricity supplies will be maintained to properties throughout the duration of the project.
John Thoms, Project Manager at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, said:
"We've scheduled these works to start during the school holidays to minimise disruption to the local community and have delivered letters to homes and businesses in advance to inform customers of our plans and invite any questions the local community may have."
"While we recognise the works may cause some disruption, this investment will provide a more resilient power supply to local homes and businesses, greatly minimising future disruption by improving the reliability of the network."
