Pupils across Dundee are now equipped with vital safety information as Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) attended the annual Safe Taysiders event.

The three-week event, organised by Dundee City Council and held at Police Scotland's Balunie Drive offices, was attended by over 1,600 Primary 7 pupils from Dundee and the surrounding areas.

Samantha O'Connor, SSEN's Regional Customer Relationship Manager and Mikey Cummings, a craftsperson based in the company's Dundee depot, were on site to promote safety inside and outside of the home, helping the children learn about different hazards, how to avoid them and how to respond in an emergency.

Samantha said:

"We've been supporting the Safe Taysiders event for a number of years now and it's great to see so many youngsters who are keen to learn more about the world of electricity and how to stay safe both inside and outside of their homes."

"Safety is SSEN's number one priority and every year the Safe Taysiders event gives us a unique opportunity to interact and engage with a wide range of pupils, reminding them of the dangers associated with electricity and letting them know if it's not safe, we don't do it."

Speaking on the day, Scott Menmuir from Police Scotland said:

"Safe Taysiders is an event for every P7 pupil in Dundee and offers the youngsters personal safety advice which they can use for the rest of their lives. This is a great time to engage with them when they're in P7, as we find that they take everything on board at that age."

SSEN's stand at the event included a mock-up electric pole with safety signage to remind youngsters of the dangers of playing near electrical equipment, examples of the cables and equipment in use across the region, as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which the pupils enjoyed trying on and modelling to their classmates.
