Supporting our customers on the rare occasions there is a power cut is a key part of our commitment to delivering excellent customer service at all times.

We recognise that for some of our customers, a power cut can be particularly challenging, and in some cases it can even be distressing, and so that is why we have our Priority Service Register (PSR) for our customers who may require extra help. The PSR offers free help and support to our customers when they need it most, with examples including those who are over 60, those with a young family, people who have home medical equipment that relies on electricity or are living with dementia.

One of our biggest challenges is ensuring that as many eligible customers as possible are signed up to the PSR so we can provide the level of support that is necessary when there is a power cut. In my role as Customer and Community Advisor for SSEN, promoting the PSR to our customers and stakeholders is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job as it helps ensure those customers who need that extra bit of help are supported when things go wrong.

Last week I appeared live on Angel Radio, a station that is based in Havant, whose target audience is the more elderly listeners who feel they're not catered for by mainstream radio stations, to promote the support that is available to our customers, including the PSR.

We were approached by Angel Radio through one of my colleagues in Solent Park, as she volunteers there in her spare time and recognised that this would give us a fantastic opportunity to engage with one of our own key target audiences to highlight the free help and support that comes with the PSR.

Appearing live on radio was a fascinating experience and it was clear from meeting the team at Angel Radio that they have a real passion for, and connection with, their customer base. My guest spot began with an overview of the PSR, the benefits we can offer and how simple it is to sign up for the free service. We then moved on to other related topics such as the free national power cut helpline number, 105 and the kind of work I do on a daily basis as a Customer and Community Advisor.

I'm passionate about my job, and I get a lot of satisfaction knowing that I'm in a position to offer help and support to customers when the power is off. Angel Radio has an audience reach of around 1.4m, stretching out well past our region of central southern England thanks to the wonder of DAB Radio, and to get the chance to appear on one of its shows presented a great opportunity to reach a group of customers who may not be aware of the support that is available to them, and I was proud to play my part in helping to raise awareness of the PSR.

If you think that you, or anyone you know, may benefit from being on our PSR, pleasego to www.ssen.co.uk/PriorityServices, to learn more and complete the application form.
