Teams from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have given the community of Elgin a helping hand, using specialist equipment to put up hanging baskets in the town centre.
As part of SSEN's 'Be the Difference' programme, every SSEN employee is encouraged to take a day away from their usual job and volunteer to help local charities and community projects of their choice.
Following a request from local Councillor and recently elected Council Leader of Moray Council - Cllr Graham Leadbitter - SSEN organised specialist equipment and volunteers from its Elgin depot in Chanonry Road North with this year's Elgin Hanging Basket project.
Gill Neill, Elgin Business Improvement District (BID) Chief Executive, said:
"The Elgin Hanging Basket project is being organised and funded by Elgin BID, the SPICE Group and the Elgin Community Council. We know that having the baskets in the city will make a huge difference to how people view and use it. We cannot thank the team at SSEN enough, physically getting the baskets in place was a bit of a challenge and their support has made a huge difference."
Shona Horn, Customer Relationship Manager for SSEN's North Caledonia region, added:
"We were delighted to assist Elgin BID, the SPICE Group and Elgin Community Council with this initiative to brighten the centre of Elgin. Our Be the Difference days give us the opportunity to not only volunteer our time, but also some of our more specialised equipment, to help ease potentially challenging situations for our communities."
"Our teams really value the chance to volunteer in the communities in which they live and work, and I hope residents and visitors to the town enjoy the difference the hanging baskets make, particularly in the summer months as we are experiencing fantastic weather across the region."
Since the launch of the 'Be the Difference' volunteering programme, it has helped over 2,500 projects, with SSEN employees dedicating their time to projects that matter in their local communities.
