Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is investing over £300,000 in a programme of works in Witney, Oxfordshire to boost the resilience of the electricity infrastructure in the area.

The essential works to help improve the security of supply will commence in the last week of June, continuing in to the first week of July. To ensure the safety of residents, commuters and SSEN engineers during these works, a temporary traffic management system with road closures will be in place on the A40 Witney bypass on two separate occasions.

These closures on Wednesday 28 June and Wednesday 5 July will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users as much as possible.
At no time during these essential works will customers' power supplies be affected.

SSEN Network Construction Manager, John Fleet said: "As homes and businesses in Witney continue to develop and grow, it's vital that SSEN ensures the electricity network in the area is fit for the future. This investment will see the diversion of an existing overhead line and the undergrounding of a section of the network, which has meant temporary road closures are necessary to carry out these works as safely as possible and with the least amount of disruption and inconvenience to both our customers and road users."

To enable the completion of works and the installation of four new poles on either side of the A40 to carry overhead cable, road closures and diversions will be in place on:

  • Wednesday 28 June 2017 from 22:00 to 05:00 on Thursday 29 June
  • Wednesday 5 July from 22:00 to 05:00 on Thursday 6 July

SSEN wants to reassure its customers that throughout this programme of improvement it will do everything possible to minimise noise and disruption while building a stronger electricity network for Witney.
