High winds, snow and lightning have affected parts of Scotland overnight, causing disruption to the road network and challenging travel conditions.
It is expected this weather front will continue to impact the north of Scotland through the course of today and whilst SSEN does not anticipate this will result in widespread damage to the electricity network, some disruption is possible.
Weather forecasts for the next 48 hours show persistent high winds, heavy snow and risk of lightning, with gusts of up to 75mph possible overnight from Thursday into Friday. These forecasts will continue to be monitored through the course of today and a further update will be issued this evening.
SSEN is well resourced to respond quickly to disruption to electricity supplies, where it is safe to do so, and is mobilising its operations as required.
Customers are encouraged to be prepared in the event of possible disruption, by:
- Saving the new emergency power cut number '105' to your phone to use if your power goes off, or if you see any damage to the electricity network.
- Downloading SSEN's Power Track app to give you details of power cuts and restoration times.
- Going to SSEN's Ready For Winter pages where there is a wealth of advice and information on how to prepare for a possible loss of power.
- Following SSEN on Facebook and Twitter for regular updates
