Brian Maclaren, Machine Operator at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' (SSEN) Inverness Depot has been praised by the public for taking control of a dangerous situation on the A832 near Achnasheen on Friday.

Described as a credit to SSEN, Brian took control of the hazardous situation to make the road safe to pass: "I had literally just had a cup of tea in glorious sunshine five minutes before arriving to find a scene of carnage with torrential rain and flash flooding. The rain drops looked like they'd come out of a hose pipe."

"When I arrived I found at least 20 cars pulled in, mostly to the side of the road, but some had parked in pretty dangerous places in the middle of the flood water. I drove up to the top of the hill to have a quick look, and saw the water heading down the side of the bank towards the local power station."

"In situations like these, your instinct takes over. We were waiting for the emergency services to arrive and I decided to take control to make surethe public wassafe. An elderly lady was trying to cross the road in wellies through fast flowing water so I took her by the arm and explained it was not safe. I managed to get a few camper vans to move, and with the help of a local plant hire company, we managed to clear a path for cars to pass through. I was more than happy to help to ensure the safety of the community and I wouldn't hesitate to do the same again."
