Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has returned to business as usual for its central southern England region following the impact of Storm Doris.
High winds of up to 65 mph across the region led to damage to our overhead line network in the Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Hampshire areas, with extra linesmen and repair teams drafted in and despatched to the worst affected areas to assist in the safe restoration of the power supplies.
In the run up to, and during, the storm over 7,000 calls were made by our customer service teams to our Priority Services Register customers and welfare facilities, including hot food and drinks, were provided in communities in the region, including Bicester, Yarnton and Bledington.
Craig Gilroy, Director of Customer Operations for SSEN, said:
"As we monitor the weather - and its possible impact on our network - several days in advance we were well prepared for Storm Doris; from the additional staff on the ground working to restore power, to our office-based colleagues providing reassurance to our customers and dealing with the thousands of calls generated over the last 48 hours."
"Our network stood up well to the severity of the high winds and I'd like to thank our customers for their patience in the instances where this weather event disrupted their power supplies. I'd also like to remind our customers that if they experience a loss of power at any time can contact us on the new national power cut helpline '105' where they can also advise if they require extra support from our priority service."
