Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is investing £1.7m to upgrade the electricity network between Bridge of Earn and Abernethy.
SSEN is reinforcing the electricity network to improve the security of supply between the two Perthshire towns by installing an additional cable to the current 7km underground high voltage network. This investment is designed to improve network security to SSEN's customers in the event of high voltage faults and also to cope with higher demand in the area.
SSEN's engineers, in partnership with PMK Civil Engineering, commenced work on Monday 9 January and intend to complete the upgrade by Friday 31 March 2017.
SSEN will keep disruption to the local communities to a minimum. During the project SSEN might have to use temporary traffic management systems along the route or arrange alternative routes with necessary signage. SSEN will provide further updates and advanced warnings when they become available.
Graeme Stewart, Head of Region at SSEN, said: "We're investing in our network between Bridge of Earn and Abernethy to ensure our customers have the power they need and to prepare the network for future development. This is part of an ongoing commitment to deliver a more robust electricity network and improve the service we provide to our customers."
"The nature of the work means that there may be some disturbance to our communities, but our teams will aim to take every practical step possible to keep this disruption to a minimum. We will do everything we can to keep our customers informed of the works and any possible disruption to their local area."
"We'd also ask any customers in vulnerable situations who may be concerned about the impact of these works to join our Priority Services Register, where 24 hour support is available for those who need extra help."
