As part of its commitment to delivering the best possible customer service, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has appeared in the latest edition of Fareport Talking News, highlighting the free help and support available through its Priority Service Register (PSR).
Talking newspapers provide an invaluable way for blind and visually-impaired people to keep up-to-date with current affairs, and just like a traditional hard copy, Fareport Talking News covers a wide range topics, including local and national news, entertainment and sport. In days gone by readers used to receive their talking newspaper on a cassette, but these days Fareport Talking News use USB sticks to keep their audience abreast of what's going on.
SSEN's Rebecca Botto and Duncan MacDonald went along to the paper's Gosport offices to meet presenters Helen and Terry Wilson. Their chat focussed mainly on the benefits of signing up to SSEN's free Priority Service Register, with Rebecca also giving readers an insight into her role as Customer and Community Advisor (CCA).
Rebecca said that she enjoyed the visit, adding that she was keen to help as many eligible customers as possible sign up to the PSR: "As part of the Customer and Community Advisor team, I'm always trying to make sure that as many people as possible know about our free Priority Service Register, so I started to look at organisations within the area I live who could perhaps help me. One organisation, 'Open Sight' put me in touch with several groups including Fareport Talking News, who gave me ways in which we could reach out to our blind and visually-impaired customers.
"I did some research into Fareport Talking News and read about the great work they do, and so I approached Helen and Terry to ask if I could come on and talk about the Priority Service Register and also the work our CCA team do. When I contacted them it was great to hear that they had benefitted first-hand from the extra help and support that our PSR can offer."
Speaking after the visit, Terry said: "On behalf of Fareport Talking News, it was a great pleasure to welcome Rebecca and Duncan to our Stubbington studio to hear news of the vital service they offer to vulnerable people during problems which could affect power supply, particularly the Priority Register.
"Just prior to their visit Helen and I had personal experience of this wonderful service as I am on the register as I suffer from Parkinson's disease. We were treated with courtesy and efficiency. It was heartwarming to us to know that such a wonderful service exists and we would urge any vulnerable person to take advantage of what is on offer and remarkably it is free."
