Children at Kings Worthy Primary School in Hampshire recently enjoyed an 'excavation morning', with support from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' nearby New Forest Depot.
The project, organised by school site manager Chris Carr, will see the creation of a full-size Anderson shelter and a Dig for Victory garden to support World War II learning. To help prevent lots of sore backs and blistered hands, our New Forest depot supplied a mini-digger and two members of staff to operate it for the day, which proved to be a great help with the foundations of the Anderson shelter. Expert advice was also on hand from archaeologists from Southampton University.
Bryan Puzskar, Customer and Community Advisor based at the New Forest Depot was at the dig and said afterwards: "We're keen to be a good neighbour in the areas where we distribute electricity, and are always looking for ways to help support local good causes, charities and community projects. When we were asked to help Kings Worthy Primary School with such an interesting project, it was a good chance to get involved and show our support. Everyone I met at the school was really enthusiastic, and it was clear to see that they're all very interested in learning more about an important part of British history."
The help and support we provided on the day was part of our "Be The Difference" scheme, which offers every member of staff a day away from the workplace to help with a local charity or good cause.
