  • Forthcoming Works 2021

SSEN is currently engaging with a number of organisations, stakeholders and communities as we plan our programme of works for 2021 and beyond.

This consultation is important to us, as we aim to reduce disruption to our customers and those with whom we share the sea. We recognise that our work can sometimes have an impact on those who earn their livelihoods from fishing and other marine-based industries. That is why we are working with their representative bodies to carefully plan our projects.

Shortly we will look to begin an inspections programme, with 35 cables currently scheduled for routine checks. SSEN is also planning to replace four cables connecting the Scottish mainland with our island customers.

These replacement projects include Carradale to Arran, Mull to Coll and both Hoy North and Hoy Centre. It is our intention to complete these works as a single bundle. Subject to weather conditions, initial survey works are programmed for winter 2020/21, with completion and energisation forecast for spring/summer 2022.

    Our Commitment

Wherever possible, SSEN proactively consults with our local communities, local businesses, elected members and other key stakeholders to help minimise disruption. We work with local media and identify multiple channels to help promote our projects and engage with as wide an audience as possible, in the planning and delivery of our important programme.
