We will shortly begin the replacement of two 33kV submarine power cables supplying customers in the Ardamurchan Peninsula.
The new cables will be installed using horizontal directional drilling, running beneath Loch Linnhe from Onich to Ardgour. This will allow the project team to keep disruption to the local communities to a minimum.
In particular, this will minimise the impact on the nearby ferry service connecting communities across Lochaber.
Working alongside colleagues in Distribution, the programme will also involve network connections in support of this ducted installation. It is planned to remove a significant length of overhead power lines as part of the wider project.
Already, working with locally-based contractors we have been able to remove large volumes of invasive rhododendron bushes to allow works to be safely carried out.
The project which will run across the spring and summer, is currently forecast for completion in the autumn.
