  • Microgeneration connections

  • Not available on Orkney or the Shetland Isles. Please follow the process for large generator connections.

If you are planning to install more than one generator of less than 3.68kW (kilowatts) per phase at your property, or one generator of this size at multiple locations in close proximity, you need to apply to us before connecting the generating equipment.  Where there are multiple generators being installed we may need to carry out works to our network to allow your generator(s) to work properly.  We recommend you contact your installer and liaise with us from an early stage, especially before purchasing any equipment as the costs depend on a number of site specific variables.
  • Generation connections for more than 50kW

  • If you plan to install generation plants greater than 50kW, three phase, then please contact our major connections contract team Alternatively you can arrange a meeting with our contract team and/or a designer via a connections surgery. Click here to find out when our next one is.

If you plan to install a generator up to 17kW single phase or 50kW three phase which do not conform to the G83/1-1 G83/2-1 then you will need to consult the guide for connection generation within ENA ER G59/2 G59/3. Click here to find out more.

Information on the generation station will be required when submitting your application but the guidance notes included with the application will assist you with these. You must also notify us 15 days before installing and commissioning plant greater than 50kW as we will need to attend the test.
